What to Expect
This journey through Japan is hosted by Yoko of @hikingwithsun and thoughtfully planned by travel advisor Camille of @traveledbycami, bringing together heartfelt community, cultural depth, and expert planning into one seamless experience.
Yoko brings her gift for gathering people with intention, joy, and presence. As the host of this journey, she sets the tone for connection, shared experience, and moving through Japan with curiosity and care. Her role is to hold space for the group, foster meaningful moments, and create a sense of ease throughout the trip in a country she loves so dearly.
Behind the scenes, every detail of the itinerary has been carefully designed by Camille, professional travel planner and founder of Traveled By Cami, in partnership with trusted local experts in Japan. From accommodations and transportation to cultural experiences and pacing, the logistics are fully handled so guests can relax into the experience without overwhelm.
Together, Yoko and Cami have created a 6-day cultural immersion journey through Tokyo and Kyoto that balances guided experiences with spaciousness, structure with freedom, and exploration with rest.

-
Meet your guide in the lobby of your hotel and prepare yourself for this beautiful 5-hour hiking tour. From the hotel to Kurama Station, the journey is about 1 hour, but part of the fun is getting there. A portion of the route will be covered by Keihan Electric Railway, a small scenic train that will pass through stunning nature with a variety of panoramic views.
Once you will reach Kurama Station you will be greeted by a big red Tengu (a legendary creature of Japanese folklore.) Pass the Tengu and reach the entrance of Kurama-dera; from here the hike begins! The winding pathways up the mountain are filled with beautiful trees, greenery, and little shrines and temples. On most days, the pathways are not crowded, so reaching the summit, where Kurama Temple awaits, should be easy.
Visit Kurama Temple and enjoy the view, then proceed with the hike. From here, most of the pathway will be downhill with steps. Then, you will arrive in the little village of Kibune. The Kibune River snakes through the town. The total hike is 4.5km and takes around 90 minutes.
Kibune is famous for its shrine that you can visit. You can also enjoy a drink (or snack) in many of the shops or restaurants. After enjoying Kibune Village, take the bus (or walk 30 minutes) to Kibuneguchi Station and enjoy the journey back to Kyoto.
-
Both options are available to you while in Tokyo. Enjoy more guided time with your group, or spend a day exploring Tokyo on your own.
